GTCC to Host Veterans Career and Resource Fair Nov. 11

Published on: November 7, 2019

Guilford Technical Community College will host a Veterans Career and Resource Fair Monday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at its Center for Advanced Manufacturing located at 6012 West Gate City Blvd in Greensboro. The event is free and open to all job seekers and veterans.

Nearly 80 organizations representing prospective employers, military and veterans resources will participate in the fair. Company representatives from public safety, government, health care, aerospace, construction, logistics and supply chain industries will be available to speak with attendees about career opportunities.

Flora Taylor serves as coordinator of veterans and military assistance programs at GTCC and says while the career fair is open to any job seeker, the event was organized with veterans in mind.

“Employers love veterans. Veterans are regimented and conscientious about being on time,” said Taylor. “This event will help veterans find jobs that are suitable for them as they transition from the military."

Transitioning from combat to the classroom can be challenging. Taylor says helping students navigate the complex system of services and programs available to them is important. GTCC opened a Veterans Resource Center in 2015 to assist its student veteran population with resources, guidance and support. The college serves 400 student veterans.

NCWorks, Disabled American Veterans and Guilford County Veterans Services will be among the veterans resource organizations attending the event. A complete list of participating organizations and companies can be found here.
